Deck overview

This Sultai deck is helmed by Zaxara, the Exemplary, combining tribal Hydra synergy with exponential +1/+1 counter scaling. The core game plan establishes early ramp to cast Zaxara on Turn 3 or 4. Once active, Zaxara acts as both a ramp permanent (tapping for two mana of any color) and a token engine, creating a 0/0 Hydra with X +1/+1 counters every time an {X}-cost spell is cast. The deck compounds this board presence using premier counter doublers such as Branching Evolution, Doubling Season, Unbound Flourishing, and Innkeeper's Talent. As hydras scale into double-digit power and toughness, the deck breaks through board stalls using trample enablers like Shadowspear and Training Regimen, or complete unblockability via Herald of Secret Streams. An alternate win condition is provided by Simic Ascendancy, which rapidly accumulates growth counters from massive Hydra entries.
