Deck overview

This Simic deck is a dedicated Merfolk kindred strategy commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It leverages low-cost mana dorks and fast artifact mana to cast Hakbal on Turn 3. Once on the battlefield, Hakbal turns every Merfolk into a repeatable engine that explores at combat, placing +1/+1 counters on creatures, filtering draws, and putting extra lands directly into play. The deck scales its board presence rapidly, converting counter growth into unblockable combat damage with Herald of Secret Streams, Lord of Atlantis, or a one-sided bounce with Wave Goodbye. Alongside its combat clock, the deck packs high-utility creature tutors and compact infinite combos, most notably Intruder Alarm with Presence of Gond. Protective spells like Heroic Intervention and Ripples of Potential safeguard the board against wipes, while cards like Vodalian Hexcatcher provide flexible interaction on key turns.
