Deck overview

This mono-black deck uses Ghoulcaller Gisa to convert high-power Zombie creatures into wide armies of 2/2 Zombie tokens. The early game focuses on developing mana rocks and establishing low-cost Zombies such as Cryptbreaker, Champion of the Perished, and Diregraf Colossus. Once Gisa is deployed, she sacrifices larger threats to flood the battlefield with tokens, triggering enter-the-battlefield and death abilities from cards like Ayara, First of Locthwain, Undead Augur, and Vengeful Dead. Anthem effects from lords such as Death Baron and Undead Warchief grant the swarm evasion and high combat stats, while Gray Merchant of Asphodel delivers lethal life drain scaled to black devotion. The deck has limited interaction against noncreature artifacts and combos, and Gisa is vulnerable to removal before she can tap. However, dense tribal redundancy and consistent card draw engines allow the deck to rebuild and close games effectively through attrition and wide combat swings.
