Deck overview

This Orzhov deck combines defensive lifegain engines, taxing stax pieces, and explosive combo finishes under Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. During the early turns, it deploys low-cost lifegain anchors like Soul Warden, Authority of the Consuls, and Blind Obedience to establish a stable life cushion while slowing down aggressive and treasure-reliant opponents. Mid-game turns focus on ramping into Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel or card engines such as Black Market Connections and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, converting incremental life gains directly into overwhelming card advantage. The deck pivots into a decisive win on Turn 6 by resolving compact, game-ending combinations. Its primary kill routes include the infinite life-drain loop of Exquisite Blood paired with Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Enduring Tenacity, devastating storm turns powered by Bolas's Citadel and Aetherflux Reservoir, and massive card draws via Peer into the Abyss. Backed by premium protection like Grand Abolisher, Silence, and Teferi's Protection, the deck safely executes its combos on the turn they resolve.
