Matt's Smaug | Extra Turns #74 by Stiggs

Format: Commander

Commander: Smaug the Impenetrable

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Rakdos dragon-treasure deck centered on Smaug the Impenetrable as an indestructible, hasty engine that converts noncombat damage into Treasure. The main path is to ramp to seven mana, aim self-damage spells (Fire Covenant, Blasphemous Act, Spiteful Banditry) at Smaug while Wrathful Red Dragon is on the battlefield, and spend the resulting Treasure hoard on a dragon alpha strike or Wrathful burn. Secondary paths are flying beatdown with Goldspan/Goldlust/big dragons and value recursion through Rivaz of the Claw and The Soul Stone. Smaug, Wicked Worm is a hidden commander in the 99: it creates a one-shot Treasure burst and rewards Treasure-fueled spells with card draw. The deck is built to use the damage-conversion face, not combat alone.
