Deck overview

This Gruul deck leverages Tahngarth, First Mate alongside goad mechanics to turn opponents' combat steps into your own offensive engine. By attacking on your turn to tap Tahngarth, he jumps into each opponent's combat step to attack other players, effectively swinging up to four times per turn cycle. Dense early ramp ensures a consistent Turn 3 commander deployment, followed by equipment and auras that grant evasion, trample, and power multipliers like The Sound of Drums or Power Fist. The deck controls the flow of battle using mass goad cards such as Disrupt Decorum and Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer, stripping opposing blockers and redirecting aggression away from you. Resilient low-cost protection spells defend Tahngarth from removal, while backup threats like Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos maintain aggressive pressure if the commander is contested.
