Deck overview

The deck uses Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls as a payoff for repeated opponent life loss. Its strongest ordinary engine is Valgavoth with Fate Unraveler: each opponent's draw step causes 1 life loss, which draws a card and grows Valgavoth. Mana rocks help reach the expensive four- and five-mana cards, while Painful Quandary, Mogis, God of Slaughter, Rug of Smothering, and The Lord of Pain punish normal table activity. Removal from Abrade, Bedevil, Feed the Swarm, and Fiery Confluence gives the deck a functional answer suite. The main weakness is access. Only Rune-Scarred Demon directly searches for a missing card, and it arrives late. The engine can create a large resource advantage around turn 7, but it lacks a compact, reliable finish. Valgavoth combat damage and Exsanguinate are plausible closers, not ordinary same-turn wins. The deck is therefore a slower, interactive group-slug build rather than a competitive combo deck.
