Deck overview

This mono-black deck leverages Avacyn, Angel of Horror to turn standard aristocrat loops into an oppressive, continuous attrition engine. By combining sacrifice outlets with self-sacrificing edict creatures like Fleshbag Marauder, Plaguecrafter, and Accursed Marauder, Avacyn returns those creatures at the beginning of each player's end step. This creates an unrelenting four-edict-per-rotation loop that strips opposing boards of creatures. The deck powers out its 8-mana commander and large drain spells using an extensive suite of ramp, rituals, and land doublers including Crypt Ghast, Cabal Coffers, and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. High-impact payoffs like Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Syr Konrad, the Grim, and Torment of Hailfire translate creature death and devotion into rapid, table-wide life loss. Supported by low-cost reanimation spells that cheat Avacyn or Archon of Cruelty into play ahead of curve, the deck seamlessly transitions from early resource generation to an inevitable endgame lock.
