Deck overview

This is a **Simic Merfolk +1/+1 counter tribal** deck helmed by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The primary game plan is to deploy a swarm of Merfolk, then use Hakbal's combat trigger to have each Merfolk explore, rapidly growing the board with +1/+1 counters while simultaneously ramping lands from hand and drawing cards. The deck leans heavily on **counter synergy** - using cards like Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, and Deeproot Elite to double or multiply counters, and Herald of Secret Streams to make all creatures with counters unblockable. Wins come through **combat damage** with an evasive, overwhelmingly large army, or via the alternate condition Simic Ascendancy (20 growth counters). The deck lacks infinite combos and relies on incremental value and overwhelming board presence.
