Commander: Smaug the Impenetrable

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This is a Rakdos treasure-dragon deck that accelerates Smaug the Impenetrable onto the battlefield by turns 3-4 and weaponizes his indestructible, hasty 8/7 body into a mana economy. Self-damage pieces - Pyrohemia, Cut Propulsion, Self-Destruct, Blazing Sunsteel, Pariah's Shield, Pain for All - turn damage into a cascade of Treasures, which Xorn, Academy Manufactor, and Goldspan Dragon multiply further. The horde then converts into table-wide burn/lifedrain through Reckless Fireweaver, Weftstalker Ardent, Mayhem Devil, Mirkwood Bats, and Marionette Apprentice; into big X-spell finishes (Exsanguinate, Crackle with Power); or into artifact-count wins via Magda, Brazen Outlaw tutoring Hellkite Tyrant or Knuckles the Echidna. The 99 is largely self-contained, but Smaug is both the engine and an immediate 8-power flying commander-damage threat that attacks the turn he is cast.
