Deck overview

This deck is a classic mono-black midrange strategy commanded by Isareth the Awakener. It focuses on controlling the board through efficient creature removal, filling its graveyard via cycling, sacrifice, and combat, and leveraging Isareth to reanimate utility creatures and combat threats. The early game establishes mana development with Swamps and 3-CMC mana rocks while putting value targets like Shriekmaw or Plaguecrafter into the graveyard. In the mid-to-late game, the deck transitions from board control to a closing clock using devotion and drain payoffs such as Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Pontiff of Blight, and Loyal Subordinate, backed by large beaters like Blight Titan and Nightmare. While resilient against creature-heavy boards, the deck relies heavily on natural card draw, lacks fast stack protection, and takes multiple combat turns to eliminate a full multiplayer table.
