Deck overview

This deck is a Mono-Black Voltron Control build that uses Gollum, Scheming Guide as an elusive, low-cost commander. The game plan focuses on casting Gollum early, ramping into powerful swamp-scaling equipment such as Lashwrithe, Nightmare Lash, Strata Scythe, and Blackblade Reforged, and attacking opponents with lethal commander or infect damage. Gollum's attack trigger provides card filtering, card draw, and combat evasion by creating unblockable attacks when opponents guess incorrectly. A dense suite of mono-black spot removal spells and sweepers like Damnation and Mutilate controls opposing creature boards, while defensive artifacts like Crawlspace and Silent Arbiter suppress counterattacks. Because the deck wins strictly through single-target combat damage without infinite combos, it steadily eliminates opponents one by one over several turn rotations, relying on equipment like Swiftfoot Boots and auras like Kaya's Ghostform to preserve its central threat.
