Deck overview

Kona, Rescue Beastie is the deck's central engine. The plan is to accelerate into Kona, make it tapped through Lightning Greaves or combat, and use its second-main-phase trigger to put a large permanent from hand onto the battlefield. Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant is the strongest ordinary payoff because it can immediately deploy other creatures from hand. Kodama of the East Tree, Monster Manual, Eladamri, Korvecdal, and In Search of Greatness provide additional cheating and scaling. The deck has strong creature tutors and respectable protection, but it is not a compact combo deck. Its pressure depends on having several large creatures available together, and most cheated creatures do not have haste. Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus, Garruk's Uprising, Old One Eye, and Overwhelming Stampede can create exceptional combat turns, yet the list does not reliably prove a three-player kill or total lockout from the normal Kona sequence.
