Deck overview

This deck is a Rakdos Group Slug and Burn Attrition strategy commanded by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The primary game plan establishes cheap, symmetrical life-loss permanents early, then deploys Valgavoth on Turn 4 to break parity. Because Valgavoth triggers whenever an opponent loses life for the first time during their turn, passive damage sources like Roiling Vortex, Zo-Zu the Punisher, Mogis, God of Slaughter, and Scrawling Crawler draw up to three cards per table rotation while steadily growing Valgavoth into a lethal flying threat. The deck converts this immense card advantage into game-ending burn multipliers and attrition bombs like Fiery Emancipation, The Lord of Pain, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, and Massacre Wurm. Opponents are forced into a difficult dilemma: spend removal through Valgavoth's Ward-Pay 2 life ability—which triggers Valgavoth—or succumb to rapid commander damage and inevitable table-wide drain.
