Deck overview

This deck is an Izzet control and midrange strategy built around Aegar, the Freezing Flame. It turns excess combat and noncombat damage into reliable card advantage. In the early game, cheap burn spells like Flame Slash, Lightning Bolt, and Abrade control opposing creature development while keeping your hand full through Aegar's trigger. In the midgame, cost reducers and damage doublers like Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, Calamity Bearer, and Harmonic Prodigy accelerate tempo and card velocity. The deck closes games around Turn 6 by pairing Toralf, God of Fury with massive board wipes such as Blasphemous Act or Star of Extinction, redirecting excess noncombat damage across every destroyed opposing creature straight to opponents' life totals for a sudden, decisive finish.
