Deck overview

This deck executes an Orzhov lifegain control strategy that stabilizes the early board through defensive taxes and converts lifegain triggers into substantial card advantage. Led by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel, the deck leverages its commander to draw extra cards while steadily draining opponents. A dense suite of pillowfort enchantments and efficient spot removal blunts incoming attacks and neutralizes high-priority threats. The primary win condition is the classic two-card infinite combo of Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond, which immediately eliminates all opponents upon dealing or gaining a single point of life. To ensure consistency, the list runs premium tutors including Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, and Enlightened Tutor. When the primary combo is contested, the deck transitions cleanly into alternate win conditions such as Approach of the Second Sun, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse with Peer into the Abyss, or combat superiority backed by flying threats.
