Deck overview

This deck is a Grixis Midrange strategy built around Sauron, the Dark Lord. It accelerates in the opening turns with artifact ramp to cast Sauron by Turn 5. Once deployed, Sauron generates immense passive value by amassing Orc Armies whenever opponents cast spells. Sauron's combat trigger enables a repeatable hand-refresh engine: every time an Army deals combat damage, the Ring tempts the player, allowing them to discard their hand and draw four fresh cards. The deck leverages this velocity to assemble evasive combat pieces, drain engines, and graveyard payoffs such as Living Death and Reanimate. Built-in protection from Sauron's Ward—demanding the sacrifice of a legendary creature or artifact—makes the commander exceptionally resilient against targeted removal. Opponents face escalating combat pressure from a massive Army token, high-end legendary creatures, and incremental damage from Orcish Bowmasters and Palantír of Orthanc.
