Deck overview

This is an Abzan lifegain-and-counters deck helmed by Betor, Ancestor's Voice, a five-mana Spirit Dragon that turns life gained into +1/+1 counters and life lost into reanimation. The deck deliberately bleeds itself with pain lands, fetches, Phyrexian Arena, Black Market Connections, and Bolas's Citadel, then recovers with lifelink creatures and life-gain triggers. Its primary win is the infinite drain loop of Exquisite Blood plus Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Enduring Tenacity, with a secondary plan of building an enormous lifelink board through Betor's end-step triggers and cards like Archangel of Thune and Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn. The commander is a strong value engine, but the deck's combo lines live entirely in the 99, so it can execute its plan even if Betor is answered.
