Deck overview

This Abzan deck is commanded by Doran, Besieged by Time, focusing on high-toughness creatures to generate immense combat pressure and asymmetric advantage. Doran provides a dual-engine: reducing the casting cost of creatures with toughness greater than power and granting an attack trigger that pumps power and toughness by the difference between them. The strategy leverages asymmetric board wipes like Slaughter the Strong and Retribution of the Meek to devastate opposing battlefields while leaving its low-power, high-toughness army untouched. Secondary lifegain synergies through cards like Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper, and Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose convert massive defensive bodies into substantial life buffers and direct opponent drain. With backup toughness-damage enablers and Grand Abolisher effects like Dragonlord Dromoka, the deck presents a resilient combat clock capable of eliminating the table by Turn 7.
