Deck overview

The deck's main plan is to use The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride as a hasty combat engine. A large creature such as Hunted Horror saddles the commander, while Canopy Cover or Brotherhood Regalia helps the attack connect. Sacrificing the saddler after combat damage can produce a large draw and land burst. Ramp from Nature's Lore, Farseek, Cultivate, Sol Ring, Gwenna, Eyes of Gaea, and Selvala, Heart of the Wilds supports this plan, but the deck does not consistently assemble the commander, saddler, evasion, and follow-up finisher together. Its interaction is broad but mostly one-shot, and its protection is useful without being dependable. After the first large The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride trigger, the deck can generate substantial mana, but it lacks a reliable repeatable saddler or compact kill. It is therefore a mid-power engine deck rather than a fast combo or lock deck.
