Commander: Elminster

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This Azorius scry-matters control deck, helmed by Elminster, transforms every scry into tangible advantage. The commander's static ability reduces the cost of your next instant or sorcery by the number of cards you scried, enabling discounted Approach of the Second Sun, Storm Herd, and Aminatou's Augury. The deck is packed with scry synergies: Matoya, Archon Elder draws on every scry, Elvish Mariner taps permanents, Gandalf, White Rider scrys on every cast, and The Temporal Anchor exiles bottom-of-library cards for later play. The primary win condition is casting Approach of the Second Sun twice, with a secondary path of overwhelming flying tokens from Elminster's -3 ability, Talrand, Sky Summoner, and Storm Herd, buffed by Intangible Virtue. The deck controls the board with six counterspells and five board wipes while digging toward its win.
