Deck overview

This Golgari deck helmed by Amzu, Swarm's Hunger is a synergistic graveyard-matters and Insect tribal midrange strategy that converts self-mill and graveyard extraction into a massive, evasive insect army. The deck functions by rapidly filling its graveyard using self-mill enablers such as Grisly Salvage, Perpetual Timepiece, and Life from the Loam, then repeatedly triggering 'leaves the graveyard' effects through Tortured Existence, Oversold Cemetery, Conduit of Worlds, and Zask, Skittering Swarmlord. Each time high-mana-value creatures leave the graveyard, Amzu creates substantial menace-bearing Insect tokens. The swarm is quickly augmented by scaling power multipliers including Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest, Iridescent Hornbeetle, and Doubling Season, turning simple graveyard loops into overwhelming combat steps. Backed by heavy reanimation targets like Giant Ankheg, Moldgraf Monstrosity, and Avacyn, Angel of Horror, the deck steadily crushes opposing life totals while generating sustained card flow from the graveyard.
