Deck overview

This Grixis deck is commanded by Fire Lord Azula, focusing on explosive combat-step spell copying and sudden lethal commander damage. Azula generates two red mana via Firebending whenever she attacks and duplicates any spell cast while she is attacking. The deck capitalizes on this ability by casting instant-speed power-doubling and trample spells such as Unleash Fury, Bulk Up, and Temur Battle Rage during combat. With Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar on the battlefield, the massive combat damage Azula deals to one player is simultaneously dealt to every other opponent, eliminating the entire table in a single swing. A robust suite of free and efficient counterspells and removal spells—including Deflecting Swat, Fierce Guardianship, and Deadly Rollick—protects Azula throughout her assault. Secondary engines like Veyran, Voice of Duality, Vivi Ornitier, and Guttersnipe provide resilient burn and spell-slinger backup if combat is contested.
