Format: Commander

Commander: Smaug the Impenetrable

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Smaug the Impenetrable leads a Rakdos treasure engine. The primary plan is to damage Smaug with noncombat spells and turn the resulting Treasure burst into mass drain with Mirkwood Bats or artifact ETB pingers. Treasures are amplified by Xorn, Goldspan Dragon, and Academy Manufactor. There and Back Again acts as a second Smaug source that can produce fourteen extra Treasures, often the finishing push. Hellkite Tyrant and Knuckles the Echidna offer artifact-count alternate wins. The commander also serves as a hasty, indestructible 8/7 attacker, while Smaug the Magnificent in the 99 works as a cheaper hidden-commander-style payoff.
