Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk tribal midrange strategy commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The game plan revolves around flooding the battlefield with low-cost Merfolk creatures, utilizing Hakbal's pre-combat explore triggers to consistently filter draws, draw lands, and distribute +1/+1 counters across the board. The deck accelerates ahead on mana by dropping additional lands from Hakbal's attack trigger, ensuring steady tempo. As the Merfolk grow into formidable threats, key evasion enablers like Herald of Secret Streams, Mist Dancer, and Zegana, Utopian Speaker grant unblockable attacks or trample to push lethal combat damage past blockers. Alternate win conditions like Simic Ascendancy and asymmetric board clears like Wave Goodbye provide additional avenues to close out games. While vulnerable to mass bounce and exile sweepers, the deck leverages resilient tools like Ripples of Potential, Inspiring Call, and Deeproot Historian to protect and rapidly rebuild its board state.
