Deck overview

Balthier and Fran leads an aggressive Gruul artifact deck centered on Vehicles, combat steps, and mechanical synergy. The commander solves the classic Vehicle paradox by providing high power (4) to crew nearly any Vehicle, while granting them vigilance, reach, and +1/+1 stats. Crucially, when Balthier crews a Vehicle, the commander unlocks an additional combat phase each turn for {1}{R}{G}. Because Vehicles retain vigilance, they stay untapped and attack in both combat phases, doubling attack triggers, combat damage triggers, and pressure on opposing life totals. The deck supports this game plan with low-cost ramp to deploy Balthier ahead of curve, diverse Vehicles ranging from early looters to massive threats like Skysovereign and Esika's Chariot, and powerful damage doublers like Unnatural Growth. While vulnerable to instant-speed spot removal and artifact wipes, the deck leverages redundant pilot engines, token generators, and alternate animators to overwhelm opponents through relentless, evasive vehicular combat.
