Deck overview

This Gruul deck combines aggressive +1/+1 counter distribution with extra combat phases. Commanded by Karlach, Fury of Avernus and the Background Master Chef, the deck ensures that every creature enters the battlefield with bonus counters while granting an additional combat phase with first strike every turn Karlach attacks. The early game focuses on deploying two-mana ramp and counter amplifiers like Hardened Scales or Kami of Whispered Hopes. By Turn 4, the deck deploys Karlach, immediately benefiting from Master Chef's counter boost. On Turn 5, attacks trigger Karlach's combat untap, doubling combat triggers from powerhouses like Kalonian Hydra or distributing massive commander damage with Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar. Card draw engines such as Rishkar's Expertise and Inspiring Call keep resources flowing, while protective instants shield the board from sweepers. Opponents face rapid, exponential combat damage that closes the table across one to two combat rotations.
