Deck overview

This deck is an Izzet tempo and combat strategy centered on Captain Howler, Sea Scourge. The game plan revolves around deploying low-cost looters and discard enablers, casting the commander on Turn 4, and weaponizing discards into substantial power buffs and combat card draw on Turn 5 and beyond. Supported by auxiliary payoffs like Magmakin Artillerist, Marauding Mako, and Tolarian Terror, the deck applies continuous single-target combat pressure while refilling the hand. The interaction suite focuses on tempo advantage through single-target bounce spells and countermagic to protect critical combat windows. However, because it lacks fast mana, tutors, infinite combos, and proactive stax pieces, the deck wins through sequential combat steps that give opponents multiple turn cycles to respond with sweepers and spot removal.
