Format: Commander

Commander: Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This is an Izzet pinger/burn deck helmed by Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph, a 3-drop commander with ward 2 that amplifies every 1-damage source you control into a 3-damage shot (the original 1 plus Ghyrson's 2). The deck is built around a dense suite of creatures that deal 1 damage when you cast noncreature spells (Kessig Flamebreather, Firebrand Archer, Erebor Flamesmith, Electrostatic Field, Coruscation Mage, Firespitter Whelp, Vivi Ornitier) and tap-pingers (Thermo-Alchemist, Lightning-Rig Crew, Cinder Pyromancer, Gelectrode, Syr Carah, the Bold), plus cheap spells that deal 1 damage (End the Festivities, Lava Dart, Flame Jab, Gut Shot, Electrickery). The primary game plan is to control the board and burn opponents out over time, while alternate win conditions include the infinite-damage loop of Niv-Mizzet, Parun or Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind combined with Curiosity or Ophidian Eye, a storm finish via Grapeshot, and an infect kill with Grafted Exoskeleton on a pinger. The deck also runs a strong interaction suite with 7 counterspells, including the free Force of Negation, and several instant-speed removal pieces.
