Deck overview

This Mardu deck utilizes Fire Lord Zuko to convert exile-based card advantage into explosive combat buffs and mana velocity. By casting spells from exile through impulse effects like Reckless Impulse, Showdown of the Skalds, and Bonehoard Dracosaur, the deck triggers Zuko to distribute +1/+1 counters across its entire creature board. Firebending mechanics provide substantial red mana during combat, which is channeled into post-combat spells or stored through effects like Leyline Tyrant and Ashling, Flame Dancer. Direct damage payoffs such as Passionate Archaeologist and Dragonhawk, Fate's Tempest supplement wide creature attacks with heavy burn. The list features dense early artifact ramp, free defensive spells in Deflecting Swat and Deadly Rollick, and strong board-wide evasion via Abzan Falconer. While vulnerable to mass exile sweeps and anti-exile stax pieces, the deck recovers quickly through redundant token producers and independent high-impact threats.
