Commander: Braids, Arisen Nightmare

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This is a mono-black aristocrats-style sacrifice deck built around Braids, Arisen Nightmare as the central engine. Braids gives the deck a repeatable end-step ability: sacrifice a permanent, then each opponent either sacrifices a permanent of the same type or loses 2 life, with every opponent who declines netting the pilot a card. The 99 is built around death-payoff creatures like Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Ayara, First of Locthwain, and Syr Konrad, the Grim, plus sacrifice-value permanents such as Ichor Wellspring, Prized Statue, Reassembling Skeleton, and Drownyard Temple. There are no infinite combos in the list; instead, the deck wins by grinding out incremental table-wide life loss and then closing with a large Gray Merchant of Asphodel or an extra turn from Ugin's Nexus sacrificed to Braids. Braids is essential for card advantage, but the 99 has enough independent draw and recursion that the deck can keep functioning even if she is answered.
