Format: Commander

Commander: Ghave, Guru of Spores

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Ghave, Guru of Spores sits atop an Abzan engine that fuses three game actions - creating Saprolings, banking +1/+1 counters, and sacrificing creatures - into a single self-perpetuating loop. The primary path to victory is a combo kill: Ghave combined with a sacrifice outlet like Ashnod's Altar or Phyrexian Altar and a multiplier like Doubling Season or Anointed Procession generates infinite mana, infinite Saprolings, and infinite counters, which is cashed in through drain triggers (Zulaport Cutthroat, Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim, Slimefoot, the Stowaway) or a mass Torment of Hailfire. The 99 also contains self-contained loops (Scurry Oak/Basking Broodscale with Cathars' Crusade) and a secondary midrange plan that swarms tokens and finishes with Craterhoof Behemoth. This is a value-engine deck that out-grinds tables with Tendershoot Dryad, Mycoloth, and Chatterfang, Squirrel General while it assembles its loops.
