Mutate by Gurter

Format: Commander

Commander: Illuna, Apex of Wishes

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This is a Temur mutate deck helmed by Illuna, Apex of Wishes, built to chain mutate triggers into overwhelming board presence. The core loop is simple: mutate creatures onto Illuna (or each other) to repeatedly exile cards until hitting nonland permanents, dumping them onto the battlefield or into hand. Auspicious Starrix and Trumpeting Gnarr convert those triggers into raw board mass, while a dragon subtheme - Atarka, World Render, Etali, Primal Storm, Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, Utvara Hellkite - provides the finishing power. The deck wins primarily through combat with a huge, hasted mutate stack, with a secondary infinite-combat line in Hellkite Charger + Utvara Hellkite + Temur Ascendancy, and Warstorm Surge as a damage-on-entry finisher. It is a midrange value deck that trades speed for explosive, snowballing turns.
