Deck overview

This mono-black deck pairs Sarevok, Deathbringer with Cultist of the Absolute to create an aggressive Voltron and group-slug engine. Cultist turns Sarevok into a lethal 6/7 flying deathtouch attacker with built-in Ward protection as early as Turn 4. The mandatory upkeep sacrifice is satisfied by an array of recurring creatures and token generators like Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia and Reassembling Skeleton. Sacrificing a permanent on your own turn shields you from Sarevok's end-step trigger, while forcing opponents to sacrifice permanents or lose 6 life each turn. As Sarevok pressures life totals in the air, aristocrat drain pieces like Bastion of Remembrance, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Titan Hunter whittle down the rest of the table. A backup reanimation and drain package featuring Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Exsanguinate ensures the deck can close games even if combat stalls.
