Deck overview

This deck uses Eluge, the Shoreless Sea to turn lands into Islands and reduce the first instant or sorcery cast each turn. Its main value plan pairs Eluge with a spell-triggered token maker such as Talrand, Sky Summoner or Murmuring Mystic, then converts cheap cantrips into a growing flying board. The list also contains strong selection, a substantial counterspell suite, and several creature-removal effects. Back to Basics can punish nonbasic-heavy mana bases while the deck continues using basic Island cards. The main weakness is that the deck has no tutor-supported compact win. Its creatures and token engines are expensive, vulnerable to removal, and usually need several turns of spell casting and combat. Cards such as Nexus of Fate and Karn's Temporal Sundering add flexibility but do not create a repeatable extra-turn engine. The ordinary profile is interactive casual or high-power midrange rather than cedh.
