Deck overview

Volrath, the Shapestealer commands a Sultai midrange deck that turns counter distribution into explosive combat power and board cloning. The deck accelerates in the opening turns using efficient mana dorks before deploying utility creatures that distribute counters or generate scaling combat triggers. Once on the battlefield, Volrath places -1/-1 counters on opposing creatures or targets friendly counter-bearers to copy any creature on the field as a 7/5 while retaining his activated ability. This interaction turns Volrath into a 7/5 copy of card engines like Cold-Eyed Selkie and Kotis, the Fangkeeper, or devastating combat multipliers like Pathbreaker Ibex and Nacatl War-Pride. Backed by cheap counterspells and premier phase-out protection in Ripples of Potential, the deck steadily builds overwhelming board presence and closes games through massive trample damage and self-duplicating token swarms.
