Deck overview

This Izzet deck centers on Alania, Divergent Storm, utilizing her ability to copy the first instant, sorcery, or Otter spell cast each turn. The deck ramps on curve using basic lands and cost-reducing creatures like Goblin Electromancer and Stormcatch Mentor, deploying Alania by turn 5. Once active, Alania turns cheap cantrips and draw spells into high-volume card advantage, fueling spell casts across each player's turn. Win conditions revolve around noncreature damage pingers such as Coruscation Mage and Ral, Storm Conduit, prowess swarm strategies amplified by Valley Floodcaller, and compounding spellslinger enchantments like Thousand-Year Storm. A robust suite of countermagic and bounce spells defends the board and disrupts opponents, while redundant payoff engines ensure the deck can close games even if the commander is removed.
