Deck overview

This deck is an Esper Zombie Typal Midrange build helmed by Varina, Lich Queen. Its primary strategy revolves around accelerating into cheap Zombies and 2-CMC mana rocks, establishing Varina by Turn 4 to filter card quality and convert graveyard fodder into 2/2 Zombie tokens. The deck scales its board presence through potent typal multipliers, including God-Eternal Oketra, Necroduality, The Scarab God, and classic lords like Death Baron and Lord of the Accursed. Drain effects from Corpse Knight, Wayward Servant, and Diregraf Captain convert creature entries and deaths into direct life loss, supplementing a wide combat clock. The list features strong engine redundancy and resilient recursion tools such as Zombie Apocalypse and Gisa and Geralf. However, its reliance on combat damage over 3 response cycles, coupled with minimal reactive interaction and low stack protection against exile sweepers, leaves it vulnerable to faster combo decks and well-timed disruption.
