Deck overview

This mono-black control deck is helmed by Fandaniel, Telophoroi Ascian, a commander that rewards casting instants and sorceries by surveilling and then pressuring opponents with a choice between sacrificing a nontoken creature or losing life based on the number of instant/sorcery cards in your graveyard. The deck leans heavily into a self-mill and life-as-a-resource strategy, filling the graveyard with cheap spells to maximize the commander's end-step drain. Primary win conditions include the commander's own ability, big X-spells like Exsanguinate and Torment of Hailfire, and the life-gain-to-damage conversion of Aetherflux Reservoir. Secondary payoffs are incremental drain from Blood Artist and Professor Onyx, along with mass recursion via Meathook Massacre II and Rise of the Dark Realms. The deck is slow and grindy, relying on value engines and mana multipliers like Cabal Coffers and Crypt Ghast to close out the game.
