Deck overview

This mono-black deck harnesses Starscream, Power Hungry to transform card advantage into direct player burn by weaponizing the monarch mechanic. Operating at the intersection of midrange control and aristocrat attrition, the deck deploys Starscream converted on Turn 3 and seizes the throne by Turn 4. Once crowned, every draw step and cantrip drains opposing life totals for 2 life, a rate quickly doubled by Bloodletter of Aclazotz or reinforced by Court of Ambition. A suite of evasive token generators, such as Bitterblossom and Lord Skitter, Sewer King, protects the crown from opposing attacks while fueling aristocrat payoffs like Ayara, First of Locthwain and The Meathook Massacre. Backed by heavy creature removal and late-game finishers like Gray Merchant of Asphodel, the deck steadily bleeds the table dry.
