Deck overview

This deck is a high-velocity Izzet spellslinger strategy built around Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph. The game plan revolves around deploying cheap creatures that deal exactly 1 damage whenever you cast noncreature spells, such as Firebrand Archer, Kessig Flamebreather, and Thermo-Alchemist. Ghyrson Starn triples this output by dealing an additional 2 damage for every 1-damage instance, converting inexpensive cantrips like Opt, Ponder, and Gitaxian Probe into asymmetric 3-damage bursts against every opponent. Card draw engines such as Curiosity, Tandem Lookout, and Archmage Emeritus refill your hand rapidly as spells resolve, fueling continuous storm turns. The deck uses Tectonic Hazard and Basilisk Collar to control opposing creature boards with lethal deathtouch pinging. While vulnerable to mass sweepers and reliant on the commander's damage multiplication, the deck presents an explosive, compounding clock that closes games around Turn 7.
