Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black attrition control deck led by Kagemaro, First to Suffer. The primary game plan revolves around clearing opposing boards with redundant mass removal, establishing oppressive taxing enchantments, and grinding down opposing life totals. Kagemaro, First to Suffer serves as a reusable board wipe from the command zone that scales with hand size. The deck uses continuous resource-denial pieces like Lethal Vapors, Tainted Aether, and Painful Quandary to stall opposing development. Card advantage from Phyrexian Arena and Court of Ambition keeps resources flowing into the mid-game. Win conditions include stacked curse engines via Curse of Misfortunes, incremental life drain from Polluted Bonds, and a large late-game Torment of Hailfire fueled by Cabal Coffers. While resilient against creature decks, the strategy develops mana strictly on-curve and has limited answers to noncreature artifacts.
