Deck overview

This mono-black aristocrats deck leverages low-cost sacrifice outlets, death-trigger drain permanents, and asymmetric board control to grind down opponents before closing with massive life drain. Commanded by Avacyn, Angel of Horror, the deck can utilize its commander as an 8-CMC late-game engine that repeatedly returns sacrificed nontoken creatures at every end step. In the early game, mana acceleration through Sol Ring, Jet Medallion, and black rituals sets up a fast operational foundation. By Turn 4, the deck reliably deploys core sacrifice engines like Ashnod's Altar, Warren Soultrader, and Bastion of Remembrance. On Turn 5, it establishes oppressive board dominance through Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, or Syr Konrad, the Grim, systematically sweeping opposing creature boards while converting deaths into compounding drain. Lacking infinite loops, the deck achieves victory across two response cycles (Turn 7 finish) via devotion-scaled Gray Merchant of Asphodel triggers, huge Exsanguinate mana bursts, and unblockable life attrition.
