Deck overview

This mono-black deck is helmed by Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor and operates as an aggressive tempo and life-drain engine. The strategy relies on deploying cheap, evasive one-mana creatures on early turns to reliably trigger Gix's combat ability by turn 3. This ongoing card draw keeps the hand full while spending life as a resource buffer. In the midgame, the deck leverages mana acceleration from Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, and Grim Hireling to deploy potent threats like Sheoldred, the Apocalypse and Gixian Puppeteer. Rather than assembling an infinite combo, the deck closes out matches through compounding life drain using Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Throne of the God-Pharaoh, and large-scale burst plays like Peer into the Abyss. While the deck possesses efficient free removal spells and high card velocity, its reliance on fragile 1/1 creatures leaves it vulnerable to opposing sweepers.
