Format: Commander

Commander: Haldan, Avid Arcanist and Pako, Arcane Retriever

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This Temur partner deck is built around Pako, Arcane Retriever as both its primary clock and its card-advantage engine. Because Pako has haste, the turn he is cast he attacks immediately, exiling a card from each library and growing with +1/+1 counters for every noncreature card exiled. Haldan, Avid Arcanist then converts that exile pile into a personal spellbook, allowing the deck to play noncreature spells and lands from the fetch-countered cards with any color of mana. The main path to victory is repeated unblockable or double-striking Pako attacks for 21 commander damage against each opponent, with support from Temur Battle Rage, Rogue's Passage, Water Wings, and Sword Coast Sailor. A spells-matter subtheme featuring Valley Floodcaller, Archmage Emeritus, Wizard's Staff, and Zaffai and the Tempests keeps the hand and exile pile fueled. There are no infinite combos; the deck wins through tempo, protection, and a very large dog.
