Deck overview

This deck is a Gruul aristocrats and token swarm deck commanded by Gimli, Mournful Avenger. The game plan revolves around generating expendable creature tokens—primarily Eldrazi Spawn, Eldrazi Scions, Goblins, and Saprolings—and feeding them into sacrifice outlets or using them as combat fodder. Each death trigger places +1/+1 counters on Gimli, grants him indestructible, and lets him fight opposing creatures once three creatures have died in a single turn. The deck leverages high mana velocity from low-cost ramp and temporary Eldrazi mana to deploy heavy token engines like Avenger of Zendikar, Brood Monitor, and Mycoloth. Damage scales through group-slug pieces like Impact Tremors, Glaring Fleshraker, and Goblin Bombardment, before closing out games with an Overwhelming Stampede overrun or lethal commander damage. While vulnerable to non-destruction board wipes and stack-based combo strategies, the deck maintains high threat density and rapid board rebuilding.
