Deck overview

This Gruul aggro deck is commanded by Tovolar, Dire Overlord // Tovolar, the Midnight Scourge. The strategy focuses on curving out low-mana Wolves and Werewolves on Turns 1 and 2, deploying Tovolar on Turn 2 or 3, and converting combat connections into immediate card draw. On Turn 4, Tovolar's upkeep trigger forces Night, flipping all Human Werewolves into high-power Nightbound beaters with potent static abilities. The deck leverages format-ceiling acceleration like Chrome Mox and Mox Diamond alongside creature tutors to maintain rapid deployment. It protects its aggressive board with cards like Heroic Intervention, Deflecting Swat, and Veil of Summer. While it includes an infinite creature-mana engine via Food Chain and Squee, the Immortal, the primary path to victory is overwhelming combat damage boosted by tribal lords and Tovolar's activated trample pump.
