Deck overview

This mono-black aristocrats deck is commanded by Avacyn, Angel of Horror, utilizing continuous sacrifice engines to dominate the battlefield through attrition and life drain. Rather than racing toward fast infinite combos, the list steadily establishes a web of free sacrifice outlets, recurring fodder, and death triggers. In the early turns, ramp like Dark Ritual, Jet Medallion, and Priest of Forgotten Gods accelerates engines such as Skullclamp, Ophiomancer, and Bastion of Remembrance. By Turn 4 or 5, the deck transitions into a suffocating board-lock state using Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Oppression, or Sadistic Hypnotist. Deploying Avacyn turns every edict creature into a recurring board wipe at each end step. Games close through cascading drain from Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Kokusho, the Evening Star, and Syr Konrad, the Grim. The deck operates smoothly without its commander, recovering rapidly from board wipes, though it remains vulnerable to graveyard exile and enchantment removal.
