Deck overview

This deck is a Rakdos Group Slug and Voltron-Attrition strategy commanded by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The game plan revolves around deploying cheap, continuous life-loss permanents such as Roiling Vortex, Mogis, God of Slaughter, and Citadel of Pain during the early turns. Once Valgavoth enters the battlefield, any opponent losing life on their turn triggers the commander's ability, granting +1/+1 counters and drawing extra cards. This engine reliably generates three additional cards every turn cycle, keeping your hand full while building a formidable evasive threat. The deck then layers severe taxing enchantments like Manabarbs, Painful Quandary, and Descent into Avernus to drain life totals and penalize basic game actions. Opponents face escalating pressure from passive burn and rapid commander damage, augmented by Jeska, Thrice Reborn or Embercleave. If the game stalls, the deck can assemble an infinite drain finish using Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond. Efficient board wipes and goad effects protect your life total while the table burns.
