Deck overview

Helmed by Hakbal of the Surging Soul, this is a Simic Merfolk deck built around exploration, +1/+1 counters, and tribal card advantage. The early game establishes a classic Merfolk curve of cheap lords and token producers, then Hakbal's combat-phase explore triggers grow the entire team while his attack trigger cheats lands into play or draws cards. Value engines in the 99, including Emperor Mihail II, Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca, Tatyova, Benthic Druid, and Kindred Discovery, keep the hand full and the board snowballing. The primary path to victory is combat damage: Herald of Secret Streams, Thassa, God of the Sea, Rogue's Passage, and islandwalk lords turn a counter-heavy board into an unblockable swarm, while Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, and Hardened Scales make that swarm enormous. There are no infinite combos; the deck wins by grinding value into a decisive, evasive alpha strike.
